Life Drawing Workshop: male study

Bruno on Red - Graham Smith
Bruno on Red: colored pencil life drawing, done as a demo drawing at the Sony Life Drawing Workshop, to illustrate how a light source is brightest at it's focus.

It was really fun drawing that dense red curtain. The whole thing is a solid, thick, waxy color, and I just about tired my hands out coloring it! Good times.

For the drawing geeks: This drawing is 18 x 24 inches on Strathmore Recycled 80 lb drawing paper. The paper is prepared with a light acrylic wash of raw sienna paint, to seal the paper and give it a nice warm base tone. I used colored pencils and white chalk to draw the figure over the course of a three hour pose. I finished the drawing in my studio at home.

Life Drawing Workshop demo drawing: Bree

We all shook the rust off during the first long pose session of the Life Drawing Workshop I teach at Sony.

The fabulous pink haired Bree posed for us, and between helping the artists figure out their work,  I penciled this drawing. We listened to some music while the artists confronted their artwork seriously.

Bree on Red: Graham Smith
18" x 24" on Strathmore Recycled Drawing paper, with a thin acrylic wash of Raw Sienna paint. Bree's figure was drawn from life, using colored pencils. After the 3 hour pose, I took the drawing home to build the colors up. Still not enough time to finish the feet and hands .... my favorite parts. Next week!

Junior Seau - RIP

Junior Seau #55, Champion of the San Diego Chargers and hero to many, died today. He was only 43 years old.

Junior Seau was a client of mine back in the day. He took the time to chat and say hello, when one of his  "people" could have easily handled our business. That's the kind of guy he was, and everyone loved him around here.

Here is my tribute drawing of the man, RIP, big guy.
